Just thinking ...

I know (hope) everyone has opinions about our American troops in Afghanistan, particularly the deployment of many more in such a desolate and forsaken place. That is just what al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and other powerful extremists want us to think; that Afghanistan is such a sad place. Maybe it is off the beaten path of world diplomacy and trade, but there are still a lot of people living in the sovereign nation. They are people like us; folk wanting to live their lives the best they can on their own terms without interference from outsiders. The terrorist organizations are at this minute spreading word in the US about all the civilians that will be killed and maimed when we increase our military effort there. They are correct to a point, but their real purpose is to keep us out and allow them back in. These are murdering extremists of the worst degree. They see nothing wrong with killing anyone and justifying it with misguided religious dogma. Countless thousands of men, women, and children have suffered and died because these people want power, control, and a staging area where their kind can be trained so that they may spread their hatred and evil around the world. September 11, 2001 is not so far in the past that it can be made into a historical footnote. Remember it and remember it well; if not, it will definitely happen again and it may be entire cities that come tumbling down the next time. George Bush's puppet government is not the right government for Afghans, but it is the one we must deal with for the time being. We are fighting people whom would see every non-Muslim in the world eradicated. Saddam Hussein was a pansy compared to these terrorists; Hitler was an amateur compared to what they are capable of doing. To say the truth, I don't know how I feel about sending so many of our kids to be maimed and die over there and see their families disrupted to boot, but I do know how I feel about the dealers-of-death coming over here; I believe it will be much, much worse if evil is left alone in Afghanistan to prepare its mischief.

At this point in the war there are no decisions that are acceptable to anyone. There will be no actual "winning" the war. We do have to make any terrorist groups in the region understand that will do what we need to make them ineffective and powerless. We will have to kill many people in this effort. We are so involved and in many ways we are in so deep I am almost of the opinion we need to bring in as many troops as we can and really force the issue. Time to stop fucking around. Fully engage or get get the fuck out.
