Carolina Blue

Photo made atop Roan Mt, NC

Carolyn is at hairdresser. Her last surviving uncle's wife phoned her yesterday. Uncle Haskel is going into advanced stages of Alzheimer's Disease and is not expected to live much longer. He is 91 and had a very good life until about a year ago. His wife Pauline is 93 but if you met her you would think she is no more than 70. Carolyn spoke with Uncle Haskel just over a month ago, and he didn't know who she was. Sad; sad; sad ...

Our government has wasted nearly a year preparing and disassembling a health insurance overhaul. The paltry thing that is left and will probably be passed is just what we do not need, but the Obama administration is pushing and touting it as if it is the glorious second coming of Christ. Just another day of bought-and-paid-for politics, American style. If you are interested in what is going down, read Robert Reich's Blog.

Carolyn's veggie soup was great; if any is left tomorrow, it will become part of a rainbow stew. I have a story about rainbow stew, a Cotton, and a Fly which I will tell in a future blog.

Congratulations to our friend and fellow photographer and blogger, Mark. He was laid-off from work about a month ago, but now will be moving from Tampa, Florida to balmy Greensboro, North Carolina where he has found a better job than what he had. I have but one piece of advice for him: Bring a heavy coat! He is originally from Connecticut and it shouldn't take him more than 20 years to become re-accustomed to the mild climate of the Appalachian foothills and Piedmont. Good luck, my friend.

Mark will do fine in a cooler climate. He is one of those "warm" running people and when most are shivering, he is running around in shorts still. I am sure he will do fine.

My daughter is no longer covered under her father's health insurance even though she is a full-time college student. So she works a full-time job and attends all her classes like a good girl trying to make a better life for herself but no-way, no-how can we keep her covered under the employee "health plan." I am hoping that this part of the health plan comes through at least but the proof is in the pudding as they say (doesn't chocolate pudding look like cow plop sometimes?)

happy Wednesday.

Mark will be fine. He is used to being alone and doing everything for himself. The cold isn't too bad for you young'uns.

There are some good things in the healthcare bill, but I'm afraid the ins companies will be running (ruining) the show and most things will wind up being more expensive than ever. It will probably take years for the less profitable things to go into effect anyway.

Working students are some of the hardest hit taxpayers. I hope your daughter has pluck like you and will make herself heard. My generation has failed and yours isn't doing much better at running the country. Maybe her's will learn from our failures.

Amen on the cow pudding.

Happy Wednesday to you, Tammy.

I will be fine. I will have to update my clothing just a little.
I have no clothing for any extended periods of cold weather.
And by extended I mean two days.

Oh well thats the price I'll pay for a new start.

The health care plan is just a total joke. Just like most things our gov't gets its hand into these days. Fools I say, Fools.

I was looking at a map of NC; it seems we will be less than four hours apart. Do you have a gps?

Is your truck 4-wheel drive? The Piedmont gets more snow than we do on this side of the hill.

I do an old GPS that works fine.

My truck is not four wheel drive. It most likely is not best in the snow as it is has a very light rear. According to Mapquest it is 3 and half hours.

You may need at least a front-wheel drive car or 4-wheel drive truck. A load of cinder block or such plus letting some air from the drive tires may help with the truck you now drive. Then again, with climate changes, you may be good with what you have.

3.5 hours for you; I am an old man and make a lot of pee stops. :-)
